Best in Breed vs Bundled Solutions
I have spent much of my IT career on the consulting side but I have also had a stint for a few years on the other side in the role of IT decision maker role. One of topic that rears it's ugly head from time to time is whether or not to go with a best in breed solution or a bundled solution.
I see both sides but after working with ERPs I tend to favor bundled solutions because of the simplicity, how streamlined IT support becomes and integration is that big of an issue. I know that things are going to work and I try to make the software work to what I need to do before I decide that an outside solution is needed.
But I currently work with a colleague that tends to prefer the best in breed method in almost every occasion. Honestly this approach kind of bugs me, for one I am writing about it. I feel that the best in class approach is like deciding to where mismatching clothes when you wake up in the morning.
